GULF SHORES, Ala. -- The Bellevue University softball team was shutout 3-0 to sixth-ranked Belhaven (Miss.) University Thursday evening at the NAIA National Championship. With the win, Belhaven improved to 45-10 while Bellevue fell to 31-18.
The Bruins will continue pool play tomorrow (May 20) when they play Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College at 5:30 p.m.
The Blazers scored the first runs of the game in the top of the third inning on a two-out, two-run RBI single to center field by Annalee Carr.
Belhaven added an insurance run in the seventh inning on a RBI triple to left field by Rian O' Bannon.
Sarah Burns, who ranks second in the NAIA in wins, improved to 31-7 this season. Burns tossed a complete game five-hitter with eight strikeouts. Amanda Neumann (22-9) suffered the loss for the Bruins, allowing three runs on nine hits in the complete game.
The Bruins were out-hit, 9-5, and committed three errors.
