Softball splits doubleheader at Hastings

HASTINGS, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Hastings College Wednesday afternoon, losing 5-3 in 8 innings in the opener before rebounding with a 13-0 shutout in the nightcap.

The first game loss snapped the Bruins six-game winning streak.

Bellevue (18-13, 4-0 MCAC) will return to conference action with a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader at Oklahoma Wesleyan on Friday, April 15 in Bartlesville, Okla.

Amanda Neumann recorded her team-leading 10th home run of the season in the opening-game loss.

Junior Kelly Wieczorek collected her first shutout of the season in the second game, scattering five hits while striking out three Broncos. Kim Wees, Katie Tew, and Brooke Ellis all blasted home runs in the victory as the Bruins pounded 13 total hits.
