Bruins improve times at Concordia Classic

SEWARD, Neb. -- In their second outing of the indoor track season, Bruin athletes improved on season bests as they move toward the NSAA meet in mid-February. The Bruins traveled to the Walz Fieldhouse on the campus of Concordia University for the Concordia Classic which featured a mostly NAIA field.

All five Bruins who contested the first event of the afternoon came away with season bests in the mile run. The women were led by Olivia Russo whose 6:10.15 was five seconds under her previous clocking. Alicia Rivera Camargo was right behind her in 6:14.95 while Ashley Guatemala-Ortiz produced a season best of 6:22.67.

For the men, Collin Kotz had the highest finish of the day with his third-place showing in the mile run, running 4:40.91. Griffin Kipchumba Kisoryo was tenth in that race running 4:50.75.

In their second races of the day, Guatemala ran 3:49.35 in the 1000-meter run while Rivera Camargo and Russo completed the 3,000-meter event in 12:34.33 and 12:44.37 respectively.

Kotz and Kipchumba also doubled in the 3,000 with Kotz running 9:36.43 and Kipchumba Kisoryo posting a 10:00.82.

The Bruins return to action next weekend when they travel to Doane for the Fred Beile Memorial invite.
