Bellevue rounds out 2021 class by signing Danish keeper Burgaard

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University men's soccer coach Mark Heath-Preston announced today the signing of William Burgaard (Esbjerg, Denmark) to a Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at BU in the fall.

Burgaard represents the 11th, and final signing, for the Bruins. Originally from Denmark, Burgaard attended Rybners High School in Esbjerg and played club soccer for Esbjerg FB. He helped lead his team to National Championships at the U-14, U-15, and U-17 levels as well as a third place finish with the U-19s. As a U-17, he helped his team qualify for the "unofficial" World Championships in Manchester, England and a 15th place finish.

He joins earlier signees Sebastian Zapata (Armenia, Colombia/Iowa Lakes CC), Anthony Cox (Suffolk, England/Football Industry College), Buster Honeywood (Kessington, England/Football Industry College), Lucas Milhomen (Itapecerica de Serra, Brazil/Baker University), Antonio Capra (Santiago, Chile/Seminario Pontifico Menor), Guilherme Alencar (Fortaleza, Brazil/Midland University), Noor Hassan (Omaha, Neb./Omaha Central HS), Alex Jacobs (Papillion, Neb./Papillion-La Vista South HS), Daniel Gornell (Omaha, Neb./Oral Roberts) and Jake Cover (Gretna, Neb./Fort Hays State) in the Bruins' 2021 signing class.

Bellevue posted a 16-5-2 overall mark this past season, winning both the A.I.I. Tournament Championship and the NAIA Opening Round – Olathe Bracket. The Bruins advanced to the NAIA Quarterfinals for the first time in program history and reached the NAIA National Tournament Final Site for the fifth time.

BU kicks off the 2021 season on Saturday, Aug. 21 when they host Grand View University at 7 p.m. from Papillion Landing.
