Omaha South defender Centeno signs with Bruins

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University men's soccer coach Mark Heath-Preston announced today the signing of Johan Centeno (Omaha, Neb./Omaha South HS) to a National Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at Bellevue beginning in the fall of 2018.

Centeno is the son of Alejandro and Nayaly Centeno and played high school soccer at Omaha South High School under head coach Joe Mass. Throughout his high school career Centeno, a center back, totaled three goals and four assists.

Additionally, Centeno helped lead his club side, Nebraska FC (coached by Daniel Lopez), to three state championships (2014, 2016, 2018).

Coach Heath-Preston on Centeno:

"It's great to have a local player coming from Omaha South who excelled at the high school level. Johan has a great physical presence and has a great understanding of the game. We are very excited to see how he develops and the impact he will have on the upcoming season."

Centeno joins earlier signees in the 2018 class: Harry Atkins (Norwich, Norfolk, England), Alexis Martinez (Omaha, Neb.), Kortlan Franke (Gretna, Neb.), Emil Gebelhoff (Cologne, Germany), Marvin Ramirez (Omaha, Neb.), and Jaeger Erickson (Des Moines, Iowa).

This past season the Bruins posted an overall mark of 8-7-2 (4-0-0 NSAA) en route to securing their fourth-straight regular-season league title and reaching the semifinals of the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Tournament.
