Bruins double up on NSAA weekly awards

MADISON, S.D. -- Two Bellevue University men's soccer players have been honored by the North Star Athletic Association as Players of the Week in the final weekly award program of the 2016 season.

Junior midfielder Edgar Guzman was named the NSAA's Offensive Player of the Week and senior goalkeeper Ben Martin was named the NSAA's Defensive Player of the Week.

Guzman led Bellevue to the NSAA Tournament title, scoring a pair of goals in each of the Bruins' two matches. He found the back of the net in a 4-0 win over Viterbo in the semi-finals and put the Bruins on the board by scoring the first goal in the championship match against Waldorf. In addition to his finishing prowess, Guzman was creative in making runs and delivering precise passes to open scoring chances for teammates.

Martin was again stellar in goal in guiding Bellevue to the NSAA Tournament Title. He earned wins in both of BU's matches, including recording his fourth clean sheet of the season in a semi-final triumph over Viterbo. Martin made three saves each in the semi-final and championship matches. He conceded just one goal in the tournament for a 0.50 goals against average and an .857 save percentage.

The Bruins (12-6-2) earned both the NSAA Regular Season and Tournament Championships and are awaiting word on whether they've done enough to earn a bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
