Pena, Hester named 2013-14 BU Athletes of the Year

Men's and women's soccer standouts Emmanuel Pena and Emily Hester were honored as the Bellevue University Male and Female Athletes of the Year in an announcement made today in conjunction with the 41st Annual Bellevue University Athletic Banquet. 

A two-time first-team all-conference selection, Pena was a four-year starter as a midfielder for the Bruins. He played in 71 games during his BU career, recording a goal and four assists. 

Pena helped guide the Bruins to the 2013 MCAC Tournament title and an appearance in the NAIA National Tournament. During his career, the Bruins lost just two conference games. 

Pena is majoring in sociology and psychology. 

Hester was a three-time second team all-conference defender for the Bruins, helping guide BU to four-straight MCAC Tournament titles and four-consecutive appearances in the NAIA National Tournament. 

She played in 72 games during her Bruin career, starting in 62. Hester recorded one goal and five assists as a defender. 

An excellent student, Hester was a three-time MCAC Scholar-Athlete, majoring in health and human performance.
