BARTLESVILLE, Okla. -- The third-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University men's soccer team captured the MCAC Tournament title with a 5-1 win over Bellevue University Friday afternoon, ending the Bruins' 2012 season.
Bellevue finished the year with a 10-8-1 record. OWU improved to 19-0-1 overall and received an automatic berth into the NAIA Men's Soccer National Tournament.
Jack McGowan recorded a hat trick and Lucas Almeida scored a pair of goals to pace the Eagle offense. Senior David Lastra registered the Bruins' lone goal.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute with a goal by Almeida off a pass from Lucas Cordeiro. It was Cordeiro's 25th assist of the season.
Lastra scored his fourth goal of the season at 28:45 to tie the contest at 1-1.
Oklahoma Wesleyan quickly regained the lead with a goal by McGowan in the 34th minute. The assist was credited to Aaron Terrill. The Eagles made it 3-1 with a penalty kick goal by Almeida at 40:05.
McGowan scored his second goal of the game two minutes into the second period to give the Eagles a 4-1 advantage. Ryan McEntee collected the assist. McGowan completed the hat trick with a goal at 54:58 off an assist by Roberto Gallegos.
OWU held a 19-3 advantage in shots and an 11-2 margin in shots on goal.
Juan Cale took the loss, falling to 3-2 on the season.
