Bruins remain in fifth after 3 rounds at NAIA Nationals

SILVIS, Ill. -- The Bellevue University men's golf team remained in fifth place after the third round of play at the NAIA Men's Golf National Championships. The 72-hole tournament is being played at the 6,732-yard, par-71 TPC at Deere Run. 

The Bruins recorded a team total of 16-over par 300 on the day. BU is 39-over par as a team for the tournament and 17 strokes out of the lead. 

For the third straight day, there is a new leader in the team standings. Dalton State College has taken over the team lead after shooting an even-par team score of 284. The Roadrunners are 22-over par for the tournament. 

Hugo Ronnberg had the Bruins' most steady round of the day, carding a 1-over 72. His round consisted of 15 pars, 1 birdie, and a pair of bogies. He is 5-over par for the tournament and in 12th place in the individual standings. 

Just behind Ronnberg is senior Andre Becerra, who is 6-over par for the tournament after registering a 6-over 77 in Thursday's third round. His round was highlighted by three birdies. He birdied the par-5, 520-yard 17th hole for the second day in a row. Becerra is tied for 13th place. 

Four of the five Bruins birdied the 17th hole. 

Floris-Jan Oosterhof had BU's second-best round of the day with a 4-over 75, putting him at 9-over for the tournament and in a tie for 32nd place. Oosterhof collected two birdies and 10 pars on the day. 

Alex Zillig birdied two of the first six holes and was 1-over par on the front nine. He finished the day with a 5-over 76 and is tied for 73rd at 23-over par. 

Rodrigo Navarrete carded a 6-over 77 and is currently 20-over par for the tournament. He is tied for 70th place out of 92 golfers that remain in the tournament.  

Morningside's Corey Matthey took over the individual lead after shooting a 1-under 70 on Thursday. He is now 6-under par for the tournament.  

The final round will conclude tomorrow, May 21, with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. on both the first and tenth holes.
