BU moves up to fifth after second round at NAIA Nationals

SILVIS, Ill. -- The Bellevue University men's golf improved its first-round score by five strokes to move up to fifth place after two rounds of play at the NAIA Men's Golf National Championship. The 72-hole tournament is being played at the par-71, 6,732-yard TPC at Deere Run.  

The Bruins fired a team total of 9-over 293 to go with Tuesday's 14-over 298. BU is 12 strokes back from tournament leader Texas Wesleyan University, who moved up four spots on the day after shooting a 2-under team total of 282. Bellevue is 12 strokes out of first place with two rounds remaining. 

Andre Becerra and Hugo Ronnberg both fired even-par rounds of 71 on the day. Becerra, who also shot a 71 in Tuesday's opening round, is currently tied for fourth place in the individual standings. He had three birdies on the day including the final two holes. He registered a 2-under 34 on the back nine. 

Ronnberg is 4-over par for the tournament and tied for 18th-place in the 156-player field. His even-par round on Wednesday was highlighted by four birdies and 10 pars. He was even-par on both the front and back nine. 

Floris-Jan Oosterhof registered a 2-over 73 and is 5-over for the tournament. He is currently tied for 28th place. Oosterhof's round was sparked by three birdies and 10 pars. 

Rodrigo Navarrete equalled his first score of 7-over 78 and is 14-over par for the tournament, putting him in a tie for 98th place. 

Alex Zillig also equalled his opening-round total, finishing with an 8-over 79 for the second-straight day. He is tied for 113th. 

William Wood's Logan Smith currently holds a three-stroke lead at 8-under par with rounds of 69 and 65. Morningside's Corey Matthey is in second at 5-under par. 

The Bruins will tee off at 8:25 a.m. in Thursday's third round.
