In an announcement made today by Bellevue University Athletic Director Ed Lehotak, senior golfer Andre Becerra has been named the 2019-20 Bellevue University Athletics Male Athlete of the Year.

Becerra has enjoyed one of the most decorated careers of any BU golfer and has accumulated the career accolades to establish himself among the best athletes in Bellevue history in any sport. As such, he becomes the first Bruin golfer (male of female) to be named the University's Athlete of the Year.

He has recorded five tournament victories, 11 Top-5 finishes, and 17 Top-10 finishes across all competitions. This past season, Becerra guided BU to Top-5 finishes in all five events in which the Bruins competed.

Becerra was in the midst of his finest season at BU with a scoring average of 72.8 after the fall portion of the season. He has posted a career 73.53 scoring average through the end of the 2019-20 campaign.

Becerra has racked up an extensive list of awards, including being the two-time reigning NSAA Golfer of the Year and earning Third Team All-American honors as a freshman in 2017. He is a five-time golfer of the week, a two-time NAIA PING All-Central Region selection, two-time First Team All-NSAA selection, and became the first Bruin golfer named NAIA National Golfer of the Week on Apr. 5, 2017 after posting a 6-under score to win the individual title at the TPC Deere Run Invitational.

Additionally, he is a strong student, twice earning NSAA Scholar-Athlete recognition.

Coach Rob Brown said of Becerra, "Andre came to Bellevue as a very good golfer; now Andre is a threat to win every time he tees it up! He will be a factor at the next level. Andre is much more than just a golfer; his leadership skills, academic prowess, and great attitude and encouragement have made it a pleasure for his teammates and myself! Andre is the picture of what a Bellevue student-athlete should strive towards. It is my honor – as a proud coach – to congratulate Andre Becerra as Bellevue University's Male Athlete of the Year!"

Becerra was the Bruins' top golfer in a pair of events and shared the individual title at the Lewis Flyer Intercollegiate.
