Bruins pull away from field to win NAIA Midwest Invite

SILVIS, Ill. -- Alex Zillig finished in a three-way tie for first place to help the No. 13-ranked Bellevue University men's golf team win the NAIA Midwest Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at the TPC Deere Run, hosted by St. Ambrose University.

NAIA Midwest Invitational:

Location: Silvis, Ill.
Host: St. Ambrose University
Course: TPC Deere Run
Yardage: 6,530 yards
Par: 71
Teams: 19
Golfers: 100

Team Recap:

After entering the day with an 8-stroke lead, Bellevue did enough to both pull away from second place Grand View and fend off charging Lindsey Wilson to win the team title.

The Bruins received a pair of top-five performances and all four scoring golfers were in the top 13 and within six-strokes of par on the day (7 for the 36-hole tournament).

Lindsey Wilson (+29, 527) fired a second round-best 5-over to rise five spots in the team standings and finish tied for second place with Grand View University (+29, 597)

Marian (+31, 599) and Indiana Wesleyan (+35, 603) rounded out the top five.

Individual Recap:

Alex Zillig (E, 142) followed up his 1-under performance yesterday with a 1-over round on Tuesday to finish in a three-way tie for first with Lindsey Wilson's Callum Blinkhom and Indiana Wesleyan's Cameron Luczka.

Luczka began the day a stroke ahead of Zillig and Bruin teammate Floris-Jan Oosterhof (+5, 147) but stumbled just enough to allow both Zillig and Blinkhom to chase him down. Blinkhom fired a 2-under round – tied for the best in the tournament – for the best score of the round.

Andre Becerra (+2, 144) matched his first round score of 72 (+1) to earn a fifth place finish. Oosterhof joined Becerra and Zillig in the top 10 with a 6-over round to finish at five-over.

Cameron Lampe (+7, 149) matched Oosterhof's round in an effort that saw him tie for 13th place.

Lautaro Marzilio (+18, 160) remained consistent with another round score of 80.

Tobias Santillan Tambosco (+15, 157) and Lucas Leinen (+18, 160) – golfing as individuals – trimmed one and six strokes off their first round scores, respectively, to tie for 44th and 55th overall.
