Bruins make cut, sit in 17th place at Nationals

MESA, Ariz. -- The Bellevue University men's golf team improved on Tuesday's first round by 12 strokes, putting them in 17th place after 36 holes of the NAIA Men's Golf National Championship being played at the 6,925-yard, par-71 Las Sendas Golf Club - Hilly Desert Course.

The top 17 teams after the first two rounds advanced to Thursday and Friday's final two rounds. 

Texas Wesleyan continues to lead the 30-team field after shooting a 1-under par team total of 283 on Wednesday. Three TWU players shot under par in today's second round. The Rams have a commanding 14-stroke lead over second-place Rocky Mountain College. South Carolina-Beaufort is 17 shots off the pace at 25-over par. 

The Bruins fired a team total of 302 (18-over) on the day for a two-day team total of 616 (314-302). 

Kansas Wesleyan's Ben Hadden continues to lead the individual standings at 4-under par with rounds of 68 and 70. TWU's Victor Miron is two strokes back at 2-under par.  

Andre Becerra shot the top BU round on the day, finishing with a 3-over 74, putting him in a tie for 45th place in the 156-player field with a two-round score of 10-over par 152 (78-74). Becerra recorded four birdies on the day.

Alex Zillig, Rodrigo Navarrete, and Juan Pablo Gomez all carded 5-over 76's in Wednesday's second round. The trio each registered four birdies on the day as well. 

Zillig is currently tied for 66th place with a 36-hole total of 13-over 155 (79-76). Navarrete is tied for 81st place at 15-over par with a 157 (81-76) total. 

Gomez, who improved on Tuesday's first round by 10 strokes, sits in a tie for 110th place at 20-over par (86-76 -- 162). 

Floris-Jan Oosterhof carded a 9-over par 80 on the day and is tied for 74th place at 14-over par (76-80 -- 156). Oosterhof had back-to-back birdies on the sixth and seventh holes. 

Pairings for tomorrow's third round will be announced later tonight.
