KOHLER, Wis. -- Rodrigo Navarette again posted the Bruins' lowest score of the day but the Bellevue University men's golf team shot 325 as a team to drop from second to finish in fifth place at the Whistling Straits Classic, hosted by Taylor University.
The Course:
The tournament was held at the par-72, 6,788-yard Whistling Straights Golf Course in Kohler, Wis.
Team Results:
Texas Wesleyan (289-304—593) entered the day with an 11-stroke lead and again posted the lowest team score in the 17-team field to win the title by a comfortable 20-stroke margin over runners-up Midland (301-312—613) and Taylor (307-306—613).
Bellevue (300-325—625) hung onto a top five finish after being edged for fourth place by Sterling (304-317—621).
Individual Results:
Texas Wesleyan's Victor Miron took home individual medalist honors with a two-day score of 2-over (71-75—146).
Navarette was the lone BU golfer to shoot under 80 on the day, carding a 7-over 79 to finish in a tie for second place with a score of 4-over (69-79—148).
Navarette was among five golfers tied for second along with; Taylor's Alec Dutkowski (74-74—148), Texas Wesleyan's Rowan Lester (71-77—148), IU-South Bend's Payton Grubbs (78-70—148), and Texas Wesleyan's Declan Kenny (72-76—148).
Bellevue's Alex Zillig (77-82—159), Lautaro Marzilio (79-80—159), and Juan Pablo Gomez (75-84—159) were among five golfers tied for 28th overall.
Andre Becerra finished the tournament tied for 43rd place with a two-day total of 163 (79-84—163).
Bruins Golfing as Individuals:
Floris-Jan Oosterhof fired a 75 to finish the tournament at 9-over with a two-day total of 153 (78-75). He tied for 16th place in the 87 golfer field.
Up Next:
Bellevue wraps up their fall season next week at the Southern Plains Intercollegiate in Oklahoma City, Okla. The tournament will be held from Monday, Oct. 29-Tuesday, Oct. 30 at the Gaillardia Country Club.
