Bruins in third backed by Navarette's big day

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Paced by freshman Rodrigo Navarette's big day, the Bellevue University men's golf team is currently in third place after the opening two rounds of the 14-team UC Ferguson Classic being played at the 6,576-yard, par-71 Lincoln Park Golf Course. 

Navarette shot rounds of 69 and 65 and is currently tied for first place in the 81-player field at 8-under par. 

The Bruins shot teams scores of 290 and 278 for an even-par total of 568. 

Navarette is tied for the lead with host Oklahoma City's David Meyers. The Stars have the team lead at 22-under par (272-274 -- 546). 

Bellevue is two strokes behind second-place Missouri Valley, which shot team scores of 284-282 -- 566. 

Junior Andre Becerra is tied for 14th place at even par after shooting rounds of 74 and 68. Junior Lautaro Marzilio fired rounds of 74 and 71 to put him in a tie for 25th place. Freshman Alex Zillig is tied for 34th at 5-over par (73-74). Freshman Floris-Jan Oosterhof shot rounds of 79 and 73 and is tied for 55th overall. 

Competing unattached, freshman Juan Pablo Gomez is currently tied for 20th place at 2-over par with rounds of 73 and 71.  

The tournament will conclude on Wednesday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
