DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Led by sophomore Diego Gudino, the Bellevue University men's golf team is currently in 23rd place after the first day of competition at the 29-team NAIA Men's Golf National Championships being played at the LPGA International Hills Golf Course.
The Bruins shot a team score of 22-over par 308 on the 6,947-yard, par-72 course.
William Woods and Coastal Georgia are currently tied for first after both shot an opening-round team score of 6-under par 282.
Gudino shot an even-par score of 72 and is currently tied for 21st place. Senior Jose Vega fired a 3-over 75 and is tied for 61st. Mike Hannon carded an 8-over 80 and is tied for 121st place. Juan Gomez is tied for 133rd after shooting a 9-over 81. Tomas Ovejero rounded out the Bruin scoring with an opening-round score of 83.
Coastal Georgia's Alastair Tidcombe leads the 156-player field after recording a 7-under 65 on the day.
The 72-hole tournament runs through Friday, May 22.
