ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- Jose Vega tied for the lowest individual score on the day as the Bellevue University men's golf team finished in seventh place at the University of Illinois-Springfield Spring Invitational Sunday at the Missouri Bluffs Golf Club.
Vega fired a 4-under par 68 to finish the tounament at even par (76-68), which put him in a tie for 11th place in the 54-person field.
Maryville University won a team playoff to claim the team championship, finishing with a 3-under total of 573 (288-285). The tournament consisted of schools from NCAA Division II, NAIA, and junior colleges.
The Bruins finished with a team score of 598 after shooting a team score of 298 on the day.
Mike Hannon tied for 24th after carding a 78 on Sunday for a 36-hole total of 5-over par 149 (71-78). Diego Gudino finished in a tie for 34th after shooting a 1-over 73 on the day and a two-day total of 153 (80-73). Tomas Ovejero tied for 36th with a 154 (75-79) total. Nicolas Handal registered a 36-hole total of 158 (78-80), putting him in a tie for 46th place.
The Bruins will travel to Primm Valley, Nev. on March 23-24 to participate in the Battle at Primm hosted by Grand View University.
