BU wins title after second round of SCU Spring Classic canceled

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Led by Jose Vega and Davis Garner, the Bellevue University men's golf team won the Southwestern Christian Spring Golf Classic at Lake Hefner Golf Club after the second day of competition was canceled due to wet conditions.

The win marked the Bruins' sixth team title of the 2012-13 season. 

The Bruins shot a team score of 298, two strokes ahead of second place Oklahoma Baptist University.

Vega was the tournament medalist with a two-under-par score of 70. Garner tied for third place overall after recording a score of 73 while John Matthews fired a round of 77 to tie for 14th.

Other Bruin golfers included Tomas Ovejero (78) and Mike Hannon (81).

Bellevue will travel to Lawrence, Kan. to compete in the Haskell Indian Nations Invite on April 15-16.
