Hot-shooting Mustangs down Bruins, 97-75

FREMONT, Neb. -- Fourth-ranked Morningside College shot 61.5 percent from the field en route to a 97-75 victory over No. 14 Bellevue University on Saturday afternoon in the Draemel Classic hosted by Midland University at the Wikert Event Center. 

The Mustangs remained undefeated on the season, improving to 6-0 overall. Bellevue, which dropped its fourth-straight game, fell to 3-7 on the year. 

Morningside, who was also 11-of-19 from behind the three-point arc, was led by Tyler Borchers' 20 points, six assists, five rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. Borchers was one of five Mustangs who finished in double figures.  

Sequan Walker and Josiah De La Cerda each scored 16 points while Josh Meier added 15 points to pace the BU offense. De La Cerda, who came off the bench, finished perfect from the field, going 8-for-8 while adding a pair of rebounds. 

After a pair of free throws by Walker gave the Bruins an early 9-8 lead, the Mustangs went on a 7-0 run and never trailed the rest of the contest. BU pulled to within three points at 22-19, before MC scored 21 of the next 23 points to take a 22-point advantage with four minutes left before intermission. 

BU did close the first half on a 10-4 run to draw to within 14 points at 50-36 at halftime. 

Matt Hahn drilled a pair of 3-pointers to open the second half to give the Mustangs a 20-point edge. 

A layup by Walker drew the Bruins to within 14 points at 62-48 at the 13:33 mark, but that was as close as BU would get as the Mustangs cruised to the 22-point victory.  

The Bruins will conclude the tournament on Sunday (Nov. 25) with a 3 p.m. contest against the host school Midland University.
