KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Junior guard BJ Shelton (Bakersfield, Calif.) earned second-team NAIA All-American honors in an announcement made today by the NAIA All-America Committee.

Shelton, who led the Bruins in scoring this season with 13.6 points per game, was named the North Star Athletic Association's Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year while also garnering first team all-NSAA accolades.

Shelton, who missed four of the Bruins' final six games with an ankle injury, started in 33 games this season. He helped guide Bellevue to the NSAA regular season and tournament titles and to a Final Four finish at the NAIA Men's Basketball Division II National Tournament.

He scored in double figures in 21 games, including a pair of 30-point performances.

The 2016-17 Bruins finished the year with a 25-11 overall record and an 11-5 mark in league play, advancing to the semifinals of the NAIA National Tournament before falling to No. 2-ranked Cornerstone University.
