No. 13 Bruins edge Tabor, 70-63

YORK, Neb. -- The 13th-ranked Bellevue University basketball team (1-1) picked up its first win of the season defeating Tabor College (0-1) 70-63 Friday night at the York College Tip-Off Classic.

For the second-straight game, Darius Robinson led the team in scoring, recording 17 points, on 7-of-12 shooting, with five rebounds.

Dominique Grant scored 15 points to go along with eight rebounds and four steals while Jamil Goodwin added 14 points, five rebounds and three assists.

BU shot 47.1 percent from the field with seven 3-pointers and held the Bluejays to just 33.3 percent shooting. The Bruins were plagued with 27 turnovers that led to 26 TC points.

Trailing, 16-15, the Bruins ended the opening period on a 19-9 run to take a nine-point lead at halftime, 34-25.

Grant led BU with eight points and four rebounds while Robinson added seven points and four rebounds as the Bruins held a 26-11 edge in rebounds in the first half. BU shot 45.8 percent from the field and held TC to just 28.1 percent shooting.

The Bluejays used a 16-6 spurt midway through the second half to trim a 12-point deficit down to two, 59-57, with just over five minutes left. That's the closest TC got as the Bruins finished the stanza by outscoring the Bluejays 11-6 and made four of their six free throw attempts in the final minute to pull out the 70-63 win.

Ryan Chippeaux led the Bluejays with 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

The Bruins will conclude the tournament with a 3 p.m. match on Saturday (Nov. 3) against Concordia (Neb.) University.
