Canadian first baseman Sirois signs with BU

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University baseball coach Duane Monlux announced today the signing of Mathieu Sirois (Quebec City, Que./Clarendon College) to a Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at BU beginning in the fall.

Sirois, a 6-3 first baseman, comes to Bellevue from Clarendon College an NJCAA Division I program in Region 5 in Texas where he started 18 of 21 games in 2020. He hit .314 with a 1.073 OPS, nine extra-base hits, and 16 RBI for the Bulldogs.

Coach Monlux on Sirois:

"Mathieu had a very productive start to his college career before it was shut down by COVID-19. He was a middle of the order bat for Clarendon College in 2020. He didn't play last year and is ready to get after it for us in the fall. He is a very good defender at first that has the ability to hit for both average and power. He can also play a corner outfield spot. He comes to the Bruins with four years of eligibility. We are thrilled to get him to campus this fall."

Sirois joins earlier signees Blake Crippen (LHP, Hillsboro, Ore./Lane CC), Alec Ackerman (IF, Parker, Colo./San Jose State), Kanta Kobayashi (OF, Tokyo, Japan/Gonzaga), Alex Stufft (Temecula, Calif./Westmont)m and McKinley O'Connor (C, Panaca, Nev./Antelope Valley College) in the Bruins' 2021 signing class.

Bellevue finished the year at 41-18, won the NSAA Regular-Season title, and reached the NAIA National Tournament for the 23rd time in program history. It was their eighth 40-win campaign in the last nine full seasons of competition.
