Corner infielder Stufft transfers from Westmont to BU

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University baseball coach Duane Monlux announced today the signing of Alex Stufft (Temecula, Calif./Westmont) to a Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at BU beginning in the fall.

Stufft, a 6-2 corner infielder, comes to the Bruins from Westmont College where he spent the first four years of his collegiate career. In his time at Westmont, Stufft helped the Warriors to a 119-65 record while reaching all three NAIA National Tournaments that were held in his time there.

He was a part-time player in his first two seasons, appearing in 33 games with 26 starts. He emerged as a full-time starter as a junior in 2020; he appeared in all 79 games during the 2020 and 2021 seasons and split time between first and third base. For his career, Stufft hit .309 with an .817 OPS, including his best season in 2021 where he hit .328 with 20 extra-base hits, 46 RBI, and an .869 OPS.

Coach Monlux on Stufft:

" Alex joins the Bruins after a very good four-year career at Westmont College. He comes to the Bruins as a graduate transfer. He was a mainstay in the lineup for Coach Ruiz during his career. He enjoyed a very solid senior campaign, hitting .328 with 13 doubles, six homers, and a team leading 46 RBI. He is a versatile player, with the ability to play either corner infield spot and he even has the ability to pitch a little as well. We are very excited to be adding a player of Alex's skills set to the Bruins for this upcoming season."

Stufft joins earlier signees Blake Crippen (LHP, Hillsboro, Ore./Lane CC) and Alec Ackerman (IF, Parker, Colo./San Jose State), and Kanta Kobayashi (OF, Tokyo, Japan/Gonzaga) in the Bruins' 2021 signing class.

Bellevue finished the year at 41-18, won the NSAA Regular-Season title, and reached the NAIA National Tournament for the 23rd time in program history. It was their eighth 40-win campaign in the last nine full seasons of competition.
