Bruins drop a pair of games on Opening Day

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- The Bruin offense accounted for 13 runs on the day but the No. 7 Bellevue University baseball team dropped a pair of games to ranked opponents on Saturday afternoon at Jim Wade Stadium.

The Bruins fell to No. 10 Oklahoma City 19-11 in a slugfest to begin the day before dropping a 12-2 affair to No. 20 Central Methodist.

Game One: OCU 19, BU 11

Oklahoma City plated 12 runs in the first inning of the opener as the Stars, already playing their fifth game, pounded out 14 hits en route to the 19-11 slugfest victory.

Riley Baasch put the Bruins on the board first, singling home Tommy Hansen in the top of the frame.

Three different Bruins homered in the game with Chaz Lopez, Zach Diehl, and Alec Lee each going deep.

The Stars received four RBI games from both Cross Factor and Dalton Reed. Nine different OCU hitters recorded a hit and five had multi-hit efforts, including each of the Stars' 2-5 hitters.

Corey Jackson (0-1) took the loss as he recorded just one out before being lifted for a reliever.

Aaron McGeorge (2-0) picked up the win with five innings of five-run, seven-hit ball.

Game Two: CMU 12, BU 2

Bellevue again scored first in the nightcap but Central Methodist scored 10 runs over the final three innings to turn a 2-1 lead for the Eagles into a comfortable 12-2 victory.

Riley Baasch accounted for two of Bellevue's four hits in the game. He doubled home Andrew Ishii in the bottom of the first and scored on Daniel Teasley's sixth inning sac fly after leading off the inning with a base knock.

Logan Haring was 4-for-5 with a double at the dish and drove in five runs for the Eagles while starter Kenny Otero helped himself at the plate, turning in a 3-for-4 afternoon that included a pair of doubled and three RBI.

Graham Cahill (0-1) worked 4.2 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits in his first start of the season.

Otero (2-0) limited BU to a run on two hits over five innings. He struck out five and issued three walks.
