Southpaw reliever Poh signs with Bruins

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University baseball coach Duane Monlux announced today the signing of Jarrett Poh (Varina, Va./College of the Canyons) to a National Letter of Intent to continue his baseball and academic careers at Bellevue beginning in the fall.

Poh comes to Bellevue from College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, Calif. I his two seasons in the Sunshine State Poh, a 6-2, 210-pound southpaw appeared in 31 games in relief, pitching to a 4-3 record and 2.54 ERA. He struck out better than a batter per inning (10.32 strikeouts per nine innings) racking up 57 strikeouts in 49.2 innings on the bump as opponents managed a meager .223 average against him.

He emerged as a dominant option out of the Cougar bullpen in 2018, earning second team Western State Conference – East honors as a reliever. He went 3-1 with five saves in 17 appearances. Those numbers were accompanied by a miniscule 0.69 ERA and .178 opponent batting average. He struck out 28 batters and walked just seven in 26.0 innings for a 4:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Coach Monlux on Poh:

"Jarrett is a welcomed addition to the Bellevue Baseball Family. We are in big need of left-handed pitching and we feel that Jarrett can come in and provide quality innings for us. He has pitched at a very high level for two years at College of the Canyons. He was tremendous his sophomore year, allowing just two runs in 26.0 innings out of the 'pen. We can't wait to get him to Bellevue in the fall."

Poh joins previously announced signees Hunter Jury (C; Davis, Calif.), Colton Walker (RHP; Goldendale, Wash.), Anthony Alvarado (LHP; Wapato, Wash.), Cody Banks (3B; Duvall, Wash.), Derek Browne (RHP; Maple Valley, Wash.), and Wataru Kazama (SS/2B; Tokyo, Japan) in the Bruins 2018 recruiting class.

Bellevue wrapped up the 2018 season with a 38-23 overall record (17-5 NSAA) and won their second North Star Tournament in the last three seasons. The Bruins earned their eighth-straight NAIA Opening Round bid and 21st NAIA National Tournament Appearance in the program's storied history.
