Bruins sign 3B Banks to National LOI

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University baseball coach Duane Monlux announced today the signing of Cody Banks (Duvall, Wash./Big Bend CC/Cedarcrest HS) to a National Letter of Intent to continue his baseball and academic careers at Bellevue beginning in the fall.

Banks comes to Bellevue from Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake, Wash. Over the course of his two seasons with the Hawks Banks slashed .340/.444/.470, earned first team all-NWAC East Region honors both season, and the NWAC East Region Gold Glove in 2018.

While at Big Bend he totaled 29 extra-base hits, 83 RBI, and scored 76 runs. Additionally he stole 14 bases, had a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 0.60 (striking out only once every 13.29 plate appearances), and posted a .920 fielding percentage.

Coach Monlux on Banks:

"Cody is a real big signing for us. He is a proven player in the NWAC. He plays solid defense and hits at a high level. He does a great job of putting the ball in play, only striking out 31 times in over 300 at bats. Cody is expected to come in and be a major contributor to the Bruin program. We are thrilled he will be joining us in the fall."

Banks joins previously announced signees Hunter Jury (C; Davis, Calif.), Colton Walker (RHP; Goldendale, Wash.), and Anthony Alvarado (LHP; Wapato, Wash.) in the Bruins 2018 recruiting class.

Bellevue wrapped up the 2018 season with a 38-23 overall record (17-5 NSAA) and won their second North Star Tournament in the last three seasons. The Bruins earned their eighth-straight NAIA Opening Round bid and 21st NAIA National Tournament Appearance in the program's storied history.
