BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University baseball team, under head coach Duane Monlux, announced today the signing of 5-10, 180-pound outfielder Kory Longaker (Edmonds, Wash.) to a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at Bellevue beginning in the fall of 2017.
Longaker comes to Bellevue from Shoreline Community College in Shoreline, Wash. where he played during the 2017 season. He spent the 2015 campaign at Everett Community College and sat out the 2016 season. Longaker racked up numerous awards this past season as he was named a first team all-NWAC North Region selection and the NWAC North Region Gold Glove Winner. He also won the NWAC Gold Glove and was a second team all-NWAC pick.
At Everett Longaker slashed .255/.331/.327 over 153 at-bats which saw him record 10 extra-base hits and drive in 18 runs. After sitting out the 2016 season he transferred to Shoreline where he had a breakout campaign which featured a .347/.409/.512 slash line, 22 extra-base hits, 22 RBI, and 50 runs scored. He went the entire season without an error in the outfield, recording 99 putouts and five assists. Longaker also showed good speed with 22 stolen bases in 23 attempts.
Coach Monlux said of Longaker, "Kory is a very good player. We are thrilled he has decided to attend Bellevue University to continue his baseball and academic career. He is a player that possesses multiple tools; he can run, hit, has some power, and also has an outstanding arm from the outfield. We expect Kory to have a great career at Bellevue University."
Longaker joins earlier signees Jonah Yang (OF, Diamond Bar, Calif.), Luke Stratton (OF, Temecula, Calif.), Bailey Link (C/3B/RHP, Chula Vista, Calif.), Jarrod Molnaa (RHP, Kennewick, Wash.), Conner Sharp (RHP, Port Orchard, Wash.), Stuart Eurich (OF, Elizabeth, Colo.), Stephen Knapp (RHP, Huntington Beach, Calif.), and Travis Tanaka (Aiea, Hawaii).
Bellevue concluded another strong season in May with a 51-11 mark that saw them earn their second-straight NSAA Regular-Season title after going 23-1 in league play. The Bruins hosted the NAIA Opening Round Bellevue Bracket where they reached the final round. The National Tournament Appearance was the 19th in the stories history of the Bruin Baseball program.
