BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University sophomore right-handed pitcher Stephan Meyer (Tucson, Ariz.) has been drafted in the 18th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first-year player draft.
Meyer was named an Honorable Mention NAIA All-American, MCAC co-Pitcher of the year, first team all-MCAC, MCAC Scholar-Athlete, and Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete this past season. He was named the MCAC Pitcher of the Week on Mar. 30.
Meyer posted an 11-2 won-loss record to go along with an ERA of 1.47 on the season. He ranked ninth in the NAIA in ERA, 10th in wins, 15th in strikeouts (101), 23rd in hits allowed per nine innings (6.16), 26th in opponents' batting average (.199), 37th in innings pitched (92.0), and 44th in batters struck out per nine innings (9.88).
Meyer was the 547th overall pick in the draft and becomes the third Bellevue baseball player drafted since Coach Duane Monlux took over the program prior to the 2011 season and the 22nd overall, dating back to 1979.
The Bruins finished the season ranked No. 16 in the NAIA with a 46-15 overall record and an 18-6 mark in the MCAC while winning the MCAC Tournament Championship and hosting the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round.
