OMAHA, Neb. -- The 12th-ranked Bellevue University baseball team raced past visiting Doane College, 14-1, Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Westgate Field.
The Bruins improved to 39-7-1 on the season. Doane fell to 26-17 overall.
Brian Embery led the Bruins at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs.
The Tigers registered their only run in the top of the first, scoring on a Bruin fielding error.
Bellevue quickly responded in the bottom half of the first, scoring three runs, highlighted by an RBI single to left centerfield by Embery and a sacrfice fly by Dusty Kerns that plated Nate Mullins from third.
Bellevue increased the lead to 5-1 in the second, scoring two runs, both off of wild pitches from Mitch VandenBerge
A three-run homer by Embery sparked a four-run fourth inning as BU pushed the lead to 9-1.
The lead moved to 14-1 in the fifth when BU scored a pair of runs on a Doane fielding error, two more on bases-loaded walks and another on a bases-loaded hit batsmen.
Taylor Stark (3-0) got the win, scattering three hits with two strikeouts and no walks in five innings on the mound.
The Bruins will host College of the Ozarks in a four-game conference series on Friday-Saturday, April 26-27, at Westgate Field. The doubleheaders will begin at 1 p.m. each day.
