CRETE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University baseball team scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to overcome a two-run deficit, rallying for a 5-4 non-conference victory at Doane College Monday afternoon at Ledon Baseball Field.
Trailing 4-2 going into the top of the ninth inning, Nate Mullins drew a walk to open the frame and Dusty Kerns reached on an error, before a two-run single by Brian Embery tied the game at 4-4. Zack Clark pinch ran for Embery and moved to second on a sacrifice by Andy Smolinski. Beau Dahmen's RBI single scored Clark to give BU a 5-4 lead and proved to be the winning run.
Tanner Moore earned the his fourth save of the season, retiring the side in the bottom of the ninth, forcing a flyout and two strikeouts to end the game.
A two-run single to center field by Frank Haskett gave the Bruins a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Doane responded in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 3-2 lead on a two-run single by Alomar Guzman and an RBI double down the left field line by Andres Rivera.
The Tigers added a fourth run in the bottom of the seventh when Alex Arkfeld scored on a wild pitch.
Taylor Stark (2-0) earned the win, after striking out one batter and not allowing a hit in 1 1/3 innings.
The Bruins (29-6-1) will travel to McPherson, Kan. this Friday-Saturday, April 12-13, for a four-game series at Central Christian College. The doubleheaders will begin at 1 p.m. both days.
