OMAHA, Neb. -- The 12th-ranked Bellevue University baseball team used a seven-run fifth inning to push past Morningside College, 9-6, Monday afternoon at Westgate Field in non-conference action.
Bellevue improved to 25-4-1 on the season and ran its winning streak to 19 games. Morningside fell to 10-17 on the season.
Zack Clark led the Bruins at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and two RBIs. Brian Embery and Andy Smolinski also drove in two runs in the victory.
A ground-out RBI by Tanner Moore gave the Bruins an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first and BU extended the lead to 2-0 in the third inning following a bases-loaded wild pitch that scored Clark.
Morningside took the lead in the fifth, scoring three runs on a two-run double by AJ Stalert and an RBI single by Tanner O'Neill.
The Bruins wasted no time regaining the lead in the bottom of the fifth, scoring seven runs on a two-run single by Embery, an RBI single by Ryan Knutz, a two-run single by Smolinski, and a two-run double by Clark.
The Mustangs got two runs back in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by Tyler Candor and a sacrifice fly by Trevor Miller to cut the deficit to 9-5.
Morningside added a sixth run in the top of the ninth on a two-out RBI single by Cole Halgerson to make the final, 9-6.
Kyle Kinman (5-2) earned the win, scattering four hits with five strikeouts and one walk in five innings of work.
The Bruins will travel to Sioux City, Iowa on Tuesday (April 2) for a 3 p.m. single 9-inning contest at Briar Cliff University.
