Bruins notch 14th-straight with 6-3 win over Midland

OMAHA, Neb. -- The 12th-ranked Bellevue University baseball team won its 14th-straight game with a 6-3 non-conference victory over Midland University Wednesday afternoon at Westgate Field. 

Bellevue improved to 20-4-1 on the season. Midland fell to 16-9 overall. 

Six different Bruins drove in runs in the win as both teams collected 11 hits in the game. Sean McManus (2-0) got the win after tossing six shutout innings, scattering five hits with six strikeouts and no walks. 

The Bruins scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning on a bases-loaded walk and a bases-loaded hit batsmen. Brian Embery's RBI single to right field gave BU a 3-0 advantage in the third frame. A sacrifice fly to right field by Nate Mullins made it 4-0 in the fourth. 

After a scoreless fifth, BU added two runs in the sixth on a fielder's choice RBI by Tanner Moore and an RBI single to left center field by Dusty Kerns, to push the lead to 6-0. 

Midland cut the lead in half in the top of the eighth inning, scoring three runs, highlighted by an RBI single by Vinnie Orsi and a one-run double in Zach Kinsella. 

Moore earned his team-leading fourth save of the season, moving from designated hitter to the mound in the top of the ninth. He registered a walk and a strikeout before the Bruins ended the game on a double play. 

Bellevue will host Waldorf College this Thursday-Friday, March 28-29, in a four-game conference series at Westgate Field. The doubleheaders will begin at 1 p.m. each day.
