BU wins 10th-straight; complete series sweep at CBC

CONWAY, Ark. -- The 17th-ranked Bellevue University baseball team completed a four-game series sweep at Central Baptist College on Saturday, winning the opener of 15-5, in eight innings, before taking the nightcap, 11-0.

Bellevue has now won 10-straight games as they improved to 16-4-1 and 4-0 in the MCAC. Central Baptist fell to 9-9 and 0-4 in conference action.

The Bruins will return to action on Tuesday, March 19 for a single nine-inning contest at Briar Cliff University. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m. at Bishop Mueller Field in Sioux City, Iowa.

Bellevue 15, Central Baptist 5 (8 innings)

The Bruins recorded 17 hits, including seven doubles, and scored a run in six of the eight innings as they posted the 15-5 win in the opener.

The Bruins led the game off with back-to-back doubles and took advantage of a pair of Mustang errors to take a 4-0 lead in the first inning.

BU scored two runs apiece in the third, fifth and sixth innings to take a commanding 10-run lead. Ryan Knutz, Dusty Kerns, Beau Dahmen and Nate Mullins each tallied RBIs to lead the Bruin offense.

The Mustangs scored five runs on three hits keyed by Myles Hiebert's grand slam to cut BU's lead in half, 10-5, in the bottom of the sixth.

Tanner Moore tallied a sacrifice fly in the seventh frame before a four-run eighth inning gave BU a 15-5 advantage. Pinch hitter Bryce Kelly notched an RBI single and Kyle Kinman blasted a three-run home run.

Ricky Holm, this week's MCAC Pitcher of the Week, improved to 3-0 on the season, recording a career-high 14 strikeouts in the complete game victory.

Bellevue 11, Central Baptist 0 

Kody McFarland tossed a complete game three-hitter with four walks and struck out nine batters. McFarland, who had a perfect game entering the fifth inning, improved to 2-1 this year.  

BU struck first on Moore's sacrifice fly to give the Bruins a quick 1-0 edge in the opening inning.

The Bruins took advantage of two CBC errors as they added to their lead in the fourth, scoring four runs on four hits.

Mullins tallied an RBI single and Kerns followed with a two-out two-run home run to extend the Bruins' lead to 8-0 in the fifth inning.

BU scored on an RBI groundout by Kelly and two-run double by Devin Ferguson in the seventh for the 11-0 win.
