Fourth-ranked Oklahoma City hands Bruins first loss, 11-5

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Bruins were outhit 10-6 and committed two errors as fourth-ranked Oklahoma City University posted an 11-5 win over the Bellevue University baseball team Sunday afternoon at Jim Wade Stadium.

Oklahoma City improved to 11-3 on the season while the Bruins suffered their first loss of the season and fell to 5-1-1.

The first three OCU batters reached base in the bottom of the second inning and the Stars recorded five hits as they took an early 5-0 lead.

The Bruins scored their first run of the game in the third on a passed ball that allowed Kyle Kinman to cross home plate.

Chris Munoz hit a two-run double to give OCU a 7-1 lead in the third inning.

Preseason All-American Tanner Moore answered back in the next inning with a two-run double of his own and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Nate Mullins as BU cut its deficit down to three, 7-4.

Cody Ferrell led the bottom half of the fifth inning off with his fourth home run of the season. The Stars added a two-out two-run single off BU reliever Kody McFarland to extend their lead to 10-4.

Ferrell blasted his second solo home run of the game in the sixth.

Brian Embery registered an RBI single for the Bruins' last run of the game in the seventh inning.

Dalton Bernardi (3-0) earned the win in relief recording seven strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work.

Kinman fell to 1-1 on the season, allowing six hits, six earned runs while striking out five batters in 2.2 innings.

The Bruins will return to action on Feb. 22-23 when they play three games at Missouri Valley College (0-2).
