Calderon, Moore highlight all-MCAC team
OMAHA, Neb. -- Junior left handed pitcher Michael Calderon was named the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference's Pitcher of the Year and junior outfielder Tanner Moore was named the conference's Player of the Year, joining six other Bruins on the all-MCAC first team, in an announcement made today in conjunction with the 2012 MCAC Baseball Tournament at Westgate Field.

Calderon anchors the Bruin pitching staff with
an 8-1 record and a 2.72 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 72.2 innings of work. He has tossed six complete games, including two shutouts, and is holding opponents to a .218 batting average.

A transfer from Iowa Western Community College, Moore ranks second in the MCAC with a .403 batting average. He has recorded 18 doubles, two triples, six home runs and 48 RBIs and runs scored while posting a .624 slugging percentage and a .458 on-base percentage. 

Joining Calderon and Moore on the first team were Ryan Knutz, Brandon Thompson, Sean Mattson, Tylor Pavel, Kody McFarland and Robert Greco.

Thompson, who has was named the MCAC Player of the Week three times this season, leads the team in hitting, batting .388 and has a team-high in home runs (14), RBIs (56), slugging percentage (.713) and on-base percentage (.462). Thompson's 14 home runs also ranks 11th in the NAIA.

Third baseman Mattson is second on the team in home runs with six and ranks third in batting average, slugging percentage, on base-percentage and RBIs.

After earning second team honors last season, Pavel was named to both the first team all-MCAC squad and the Gold Glove team in 2012. The senior is batting .310 with 15 doubles, one triple, three home runs, 22 RBIs and 43 runs scored. 

Knutz has started 41 games for the Bruins, batting .292 with two home runs and 22 RBIs.

McFarland boasts a 3.08 ERA with a team-high 80 strikeouts, while sporting an 8-2 record on the mound. 

Greco leads the team with a 1.82 ERA and five saves, while recording a 6-1 record with 50 strikeouts. 

Bruins on the second team included Spencer Duggan, Kelvin Nelson and Josh Trejo. Nelson was also named to the MCAC Gold Glove team along with Pavel.

The 25th-ranked Bruins are hosting the four-team conference tournament on Wednesday-Friday, May 2-4 at Westgate Field. BU has won its last nine games and is currently 37-17 on the season and won the MCAC regular season title with a 17-3 record. The Bruins will open the conference tournament against fourth-seeded College of the Ozarks at 3:30 p.m.
