Monlux picks up win No. 300 in win over Chargers
PAPILLION, Neb. -- The Bellevue University baseball team used a five-run fourth inning to squeak past Briar Cliff University, 6-5, Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at Werner Park. The win gave head coach Duane Monlux his 300th career coaching victory.

Monlux is 68-39 in two season at Bellevue after going 232-167-2 in nine seasons at Dickinson State. He sports a 300-206-2 record in his 11th season as a head coach.

With the win, Bellevue moved to 37-17 on the season, while the Chargers fell to 25-29. BU has now won nine-straight games.

The Bruins will host the four-team MCAC Tournament on Wednesday-Friday, May 2-4 at Westgate Field. Times and pairings will be announced on Monday.

Tanner Moore drove in three runs to lead the BU offense, while also earning his second save of the season. Brandon Thompson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Briar Cliff took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second, scoring on a BU throwing error and on a safety squeeze by Brendon Opsahl that plated John Elliot. The Chargers added another run in the third on a ground out RBI by Gary Davis that scored Shane Richins, increasing the lead to 3-0.

The Bruins scored their first run with an RBI single to right-center field by Thompson in the bottom of the third, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

Bellevue took its first lead at 6-3, scoring five runs in the fourth on a bases-loaded walk by Spencer Duggan, a three-run triple by  Moore, and an RBI single by Thompson.

The Chargers battled back in the top of the seventh, narrowing the BU advantage to one run at 6-5, scoring an unearned run on a Bruin throwing error and another on a suicide squeeze by Ryan Etter.

Moore earned the save, moving from center field to the pitching mound in the top of the ninth. After forcing a flyout and hitting the second batter, Moore struck out the final two Chargers to preserve the Bruin win. Moore earned his first save of the season in Bellevue's 5-3 win in 12 innings over Briar Cliff in Sioux City on March 20.

Robert Carrasquillo (2-1) got the win, scattering three hits while walking three and striking out one in three innings of relief.
