KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Senior centerfielder Anthony Bazant earned first team All-American accolades and junior second baseman Junior Martinez was awarded second team honors announced today by the NAIA-Baseball Coaches Association (BCA) All-America Selection Committee. Seventeen players were selected to each the first and second Teams, while 36 other players were honorable mentions.
Bazant, who was named the MCAC Player of the Year, led the Bruins with a .432 batting average and 59 runs scored. He hit 12 doubles, five triples, eight home runs, 57 RBIs and finished third on the team with 29 stolen bases.
A native of Toa Alta, Puerto Rico, Martinez finished the season with a .335 batting average, 52 runs, four doubles, 12 triples and 21 RBIs. He also stole 42 bases which ranked fourth in the NAIA.
The Bruins finished the 2011 season with a 31-22 overall record, a 13-4 MCAC mark, the MCAC Tournament title, and an appearance at the NAIA Baseball National Championship.
