PADUCAH, Ky. -- Southern Poly State University held the Bruins to just two hits as the Runnin' Hornets ended Bellevue's season with a 5-1 win at the NAIA National Championship Opening Round Friday afternoon. Bellevue finishes the season with a 31-22 overall mark.

SPSU will face William Jewell in an elimination game at 6:30 p.m. tonight.  

Brandon Thompson drove in the Bruins' only run of the day. Mike Andrick (9-5) took the loss, scattering nine hits while striking out seven batters. 

An RBI double down the right field line by Thompson drove in Francisco Rosario to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. 

Southern Poly responded in the top of the third with triples by Edmond Sparks and Demarcus Tidwell, tying the game at 1-1.

The Runnin' Hornets gained their first lead of the game on a two-run double down the left field line by Ryan Danbury that gave SPSU a 3-1 advantage in the top of the fifth inning. 

Brandon Zimmerman made it 4-1 in the top of the eighth with an RBI triple to left center that scored Jon White. A bases-loaded walk extended the lead to 5-1.

Brad Hutson shut down the Bruins, throwing 4.1 hittless innings while striking out four batters to improve to 6-1 on the season.
