Walker, Cook named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletic (NAIA) announced Monday that 175 Division II men's basketball student-athletes and 286 Division II women's basketball student-athletes have been named 2016-17 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

From Bellevue, senior Jerred Cook (Carson, Calif.) and grad student Beth Walker (Dubuque, Iowa) were both honored.

Cook was named an NSAA Scholar-Athlete in 2015-16 while this is his first national award. On the court, Cook is one of seven Bruins averaging at least 7.0 points per game (7.4) and leads the team in free throw percentage at 93.5 percent. His 67 made three-pointers and 36.4 percent rate behind the arc are both good for third on the team and his 21 steals are tied for second on the club.

Walker was twice named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete as a volleyball player and earned conference Scholar-Athlete recognition in each of her four years on the volleyball court. On the hardwood for the first-year BU program, Walker averaged 7.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game while leading the team in field goal percentage hitting at a 44.2 percent rate from the floor.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.
