Galas picks up NAIA National Setter of the Week Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The awards continue to pour in for Bellevue University freshman setter Olivia Galas (Omaha, Neb.) as she was named the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Setter of the Week.

Yesterday Galas was honored as the North Star Athletic Association Setter of the Week for the third time this season.

Galas averaged 14.43 assists per set last week and added 14 digs to go along with eight kills. She dished out a season-best 67 assists against Mayville State, just missing a double-double as she wrapped up the match with nine digs.

She followed that up with a 34-assist, five-dig effort against Presentation while also adding a service ace.

Galas, who led BU to a .210 hitting percentage on the week, currently ranks second nationally in assists per set (11.21) and 12th in total assists (751). Both of those marks currently lead the conference.

She joins former Bruin setters Maddie Squiers (Sept. 13, 2016 and Oct. 25, 2016), Beth Walker (Nov. 5, 2013), Candace Clow (2008), and Suzy Handzlik (1997) as NAIA National Setter of the Week winners.

Bellevue faces fifth-ranked Viterbo on Friday, Oct. 5 in an NSAA match-up of the league's only unbeaten teams. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at R.W. Beggs Sr. Gymnasium in La Crosse, Wis.
