Eight Different Bruins Score in Senior Night Victory
BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University women's soccer team capped off a memorable Senior Night with a commanding 8–1 victory over Harris-Stowe State University on Saturday evening at the Renner Dennis Outdoor Athletic Complex. The Bruins honored five seniors — Aileen Perez, Lily Humes, Layla Vazquez, Sam Mausbach, and Mia Hurt — prior to kickoff before delivering another impressive offensive showing to improve to 10-1-2 on the season. HSSU dropped to 3-5-3 with the loss.
Bellevue jumped ahead early and never looked back, scoring five times in the opening half. Mia Hurt opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a long strike from 40 yards out, and Aileen Perez doubled the lead seven minutes later on a setup from Layla Vazquez. Moments later, Humes made it 3–0 after finishing a cross from Mausbach inside the box. Vazquez added a goal of her own in the 29th minute off an assist from Clementine Smidt, and Baylee Tex extended the margin to 5–0 in the 42nd minute with a drive through the middle of the Hornet defense.
HSSU's Aniyah Rowe got one back just before halftime, but the Bruins continued to control the match after the break. Mausbach pushed the lead to 6–1 in the 52nd minute on a setup from Hurt, and Prescillia Casu converted a penalty kick in the 65th to make it 7–1. Katrina Avila capped the scoring in the 83rd minute, tucking away a feed from Casu to close out the 8–1 result.
Eight different Bruins found the back of the net in the win, while Casu, Vazquez, Mausbach, Hurt, and Smidt each recorded assists. Bellevue outshot HSSU 25–7, including a 16–6 advantage in shots on goal.
Goalkeeper Abril Cura earned the win with five saves over 76 minutes before Sienna Phelps closed out the match in goal. Cura made several confident stops in traffic to deny the Hornets in the first and early second halves, anchoring a backline that held HSSU to limited chances.
The Bruins have now scored 23 goals over their last three matches and improved to 4-1-1 at home this season.
Up Next: The Bruins travel to Columbia, Mo., next Wednesday, Oct. 15, for a 4:30 p.m. match at (RV) Columbia (Mo.).
