Nolte, Wemhoff score to give Bruins 2-0 road win

BETHANY, Okla. -- A pair of first half goals helped propel the Bellevue University women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Southwestern Christian University on Tuesday afternoon.

With the victory, Bellevue improves to 8-2-1 on the year while the loss drops the Eagles to 3-8-1.

Britney Nolte put the Bruins on the board in the 24th minute. Ximena Jauregui took the ball into the box and found Nolte on a cross where Nolte headed home the goal for a 1-0 Bruin lead. The goal was Nolte's first of the season.

SCU nearly equalized in the 33rd minute when Macey Armstrong ran onto a corner kick but BU keeper Alessia Ricciardi turned away the point-blank attempt.

The Bruins doubled their lead in the 40th minute after picking off a clearance pass. Ketlyn Rota sent a ball to the penalty spot for Beverley Wemhoff who beat Eagle keeper Maria Papandrea for her first career goal.

BU took that 2-0 lead into halftime and controlled play throughout the second half to pick up the win.

Papandrea finished with nine saves in the loss before giving way to Lorelai Puglisi for the final 12:15 with the latter adding a save.

The Bruins out-shot SCU 12-6 on goal and 21-9 overall. Ricciardi finished with six stops on the afternoon as she earned her fifth shutout of the year.

Bellevue hosts Waldorf University (0-7-3) on Saturday at 3 p.m. from Papillion Landing. Senior Day ceremonies will follow the game.
