Madej, Gallegos guide Bruins to 2-1 win at Missouri Baptist

CREVE COEUR, Mo. -- Emma Madej and Claudia Gallegos each scored to power the Bellevue University women's soccer team to a 2-1 win at Missouri Baptist University on Wednesday evening.

Bellevue improves to 7-2-1 on the year while the Spartans slide to 2-9-0.

Emma Madej opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with her __ tally of the year.

Missouri Baptist's Madi Dunahue equalized for the Spartans in the 37th minute.

The tied score was short-lived as Claudia Gallegos converted a penalty kick a mere 31 seconds later to give the Bruins the lead.

Bellevue took that 2-1 lead into halftime along with a 13-2 advantage in shots.

The second half played out more evenly as BU out-shot MBU just 4-3 over the final 45 minutes.

Bellevue peppered Missouri Baptist keeper Gabby Mattli with 17 shots on the game, 10 of which found their way on goal as the Bruins out-shot the Spartans 17-5 overall and 10-3 on goal.

Mattli finished with eight saves to keep it a one-goal game.

Alessia Ricciardi stopped two of the three shots on goal that she faced.

The Bruins next play at Southwestern Christian University in Bethany, Okla. on Tuesday, Oct. 10 with kick-off slated for 1:00 p.m.
