Women's Soccer celebrates Senior Day with 3-0 win over Waldorf

PAPILLION, Neb. -- Sinai Bernal scored twice and the Bruin defense kept a clean sheet to power the Bellevue University women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Waldorf University on Saturday afternoon.

Following the game, during Senior Day ceremonies, BU recognized the contributions of eight seniors - Sabrina Staufenbiel, Courtney Wallingford, Emah Maahs, Emma Phillipson, Daisy Ochoa-Rojas, Marilia Lages, Lays Freitas, and Alanya Hannigan - to the BU women's soccer program over the course of their respective careers.

Records:

Bellevue: 7-9-0
Waldorf: 5-11-0

Bruins 3, Waldorf 0

Sinai Bernal opened the scoring in the 31st minute, taking a pass from Bruna Bielski and beating keeper Mia Tagata for a 1-0 lead for the home side.

Bellevue rode that lead, and a 6-1 advantage in shots, into halftime.

In the second half, the Bielski-to-Bernal connection proved successful again in the 61st minute, as the Bruins doubled their lead.

Bielski added a goal of her own in the 70th minute to cap off the 3-0 victory.

Sabrina Staufenbiel stopped the only shot on goal she faced to preserve the clean sheet.

Bellevue out-shot Waldorf 11-3 on the afternoon and tallied a 7-2 advantage in corners.

Coach Tom White:

"It's always hard playing Waldorf so I'm happy how we controlled the game today. Sinai has been class lately so she deserved both her goals today. Moreover, it was an emotional day for (assistant coach) Amy Tilley and I as we have been with the seniors since we came into the program. We can't thank Sabrina, Courtney, Emah, Emma, Daisy, Marilia, Lays, and Alanya enough for everything they have done for the program."
