Bruins soar past Falcons

MEDFORD, Mass. -- Two goals in the first three minutes set the tone for the Bellevue University women's soccer team as they defeated Fisher College 7-0 on Thursday afternoon at Hormel Stadium.

Emily Weyant notched her second hat trick of the season and Bellevue scored a pair of goals just 43 seconds apart in the game's first three minutes en route to a comfortable 7-0 win over Fisher.

The Bruins were playing their first game since a 7-2 win over Central Christian on Saturday, Sept. 22 – 19 days ago.

Emily Weyant put BU on the board first with her sixth strike off the season with the assist going to Maiwut Dar in the second minute. Less than a minute later Kylee Mastromonaco doubled the Bruin advantage to 2-0 with her sixth goal of the year in the third minute.

Bellevue continued to dominate play through the remainder of the half, out-shooting Fisher 16-2 (10-1 on goal) to take a 3-0 lead into the halftime break.

Weyant tallied her second goal of the match, again with an assist going to Dar, in the 27th minute to make it 3-0 to the visitors.

The Bruins continued to pile on with four more goals in the second half. Weyant completed her hat trick with a 50th minute goal from Kylee Mastromonaco to make it 4-0.

Maiwut Dar (64'), Rylan Mahoney (66'), and Emma Phillipson (81') also scored in the second half to account for the final margin. The goals were the second of the season for each of the three. Jennifer Romero assisted the goals by Dar and Mahoney.

Sabrina Staufenbiel stopped the only shot on goal the Bruins faced and combined with Faith Smith on BU's fourth shutout of the season.

Alexandra Colvin made 14 saves for Fisher in the loss.

Bellevue out-shot their hosts by a 40-2 margin (22-1 on goal) and piled up a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Bellevue remains in the Boston area another match tomorrow evening against the University of Maine at Fort Kent. The match between BU and UMFK is slated for a 5:30 p.m. kick-off at Hormel Stadium.

  • Bellevue has out-scored their opposition by a 34-5 margin in their last six contested matches.
  • The seven-match win streak by the Bruins is their longest since winning 11-straight from Sept. 24-Nov. 14, 2014.
  • Eight goals from Weyant (seven games played) already top Bellevue's 2017 team leader Reyvin Hernandez (16 games played).
