SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- Aspen Robinson scored a pair of first half goals for host John Brown University who defeated the Bellevue University women's soccer team 2-1 in the Bruins' season-opener.

Bellevue falls to 0-1-0 while John Brown improves to 2-0-0. BU opens the year on a five game road swing away from Bellevue Soccer Club.

Robinson opened the scoring for the Golden Eagles in the 12th minute with her third goal of the season off a pass from Sara Frey. Frey played the ball up the middle of the field to Robinson who unleashed a shot from 25 yards into the far right corner of the goal.

Madison Lambert briefly brought the Bruins level in the 17th minute with her first goal of the year from Jordyn Seidel. Lambert took a pass and floated a shot from the right side of the box, about 20 yards out, past the surprised keeper.

Less than a minute later Robinson restored the JBU lead with her second goal of the game. Jastin Redman assisted on the strike. Redman took a free kick over keeper Laurence Rodier that clanged off the post but Robinson was there for the rebound tap in from a yard out.

John Brown took that 2-1 lead into halftime and that's where the game remained as the second half was played to a stalemate with neither side scoring again.

John Brown held a 13-6 advantage in shots – shots on goal were even at 3-3 – for the match while Bellevue earned a 13-6 edge in corner kicks.

The Bruins return to action on Sunday, Aug. 28 when they travel to Salina, Kan. for a 1 p.m. match against Kansas Wesleyan University.
