Seven Bruins named to women's soccer all-MCAC team

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. -- The Bellevue University women's soccer team placed seven athletes on the 2013 all-MCAC first and second teams in an announcement made in conjunction with the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament hosted by Oklahoma Wesleyan University.

In addition, Kate Petersen was named the MCAC Defensive Player of the Year and Lauren Clark earned MCAC Freshman of the Year accolades.

Petersen, who was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 11, has played in all 20 matches in the Bruin backfield this season and has recorded three assists, two goals and 30 shots.

Mercy Darkoah leads the Bruins in goals (14), points (33) and shots (55) and ranks second on the squad with five assists. She set a single-game school record with five goals versus College of St. Mary (Nov. 14) in the MCAC Tournament semifinals.

Yaritza Estrada was named to the first team all-MCAC squad for the second-straight year and currently has two goals, two assists to go along with 46 shots.

Sammy Sinecio has been BU's starting goalkeeper in the final seven contests and has posted a 7-2-0 overall record with two shutouts and 34 saves. She recorded a career-high nine saves at Jamestown College on Oct. 26.

Jenica Bloom, Emily Hester and Clark each earned second team all-MCAC honors.

Clark, a native of Portsmouth, England, has registered 27 shots with four goals and three assists during her freshman campaign. She has played in all 20 games, making 19 starts.

Bloom has scored five goals with a team-high seven assists. She also ranks second on the team with 50 shots.

Hester earned second team honors for the third-straight season. She has played and started all 20 matches this year with two assists.

Bellevue (10-7-3) defeated Oklahoma Wesleyan 2-1 in the MCAC Tournament championship match on Nov. 15 to advance to the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Opening Round on Saturday, Nov. 23 at campus sites. The selections and pairings will be announced on Nov. 18 at 2:00 p.m.
