PUEBLO, Colo. -- The Bellevue University women's golf team is currently tied for third place after the first round of the 14-team Farmers Insurance Sam Proal being hosted by Colorado State University-Pueblo. The tournament is being held at the 6,190-yard, par-72 Pueblo Country Club.
The Bruins are the only NAIA team in the field. The other 13 teams are all from NCAA Division II institutions.
West Texas A&M University leads the field after shooting a team score of 306, 18-over par. Metro State University is 10 strokes back at 316. The Bruins are tied with Colorado University-Colorado Springs for third, 15 strokes off the pace at 33-over par.
Freshman Faustina Peve fired a 1-over par 73 and is currently in second place in the individual standings. Ivane Helias and Hannah Maschong are both tied for 26th in the 79-player field after each recorded 10-over par 82's on the day.
Wendy Monfort carded a 12-over 84 and is tied for 37th overall. Morgan Hazzard and Bri Stagge rounded out the Bruins' scoring on the day, finishing with a 98 and 99 respectively.
The 36-hole tournament will conclude on Tuesday (Sept. 6).
