Balanced attack leads BU to comfortable win over CCC

HILLSBORO, Kan. -- Asha Scott and Shelby Little led five Bruins in double figures as the Bellevue University women's basketball team opened play at the Tabor Classic on Friday afternoon with a 89-54 win over Central Christian College.

Bellevue fell behind 6-3 three minutes into the game but responded by out-scoring Central Christian 24-7 over the remainder of the quarter.

The Bruins continued their strong offensive play in the second quarter, piling on a 22-6 run to take a 30-point lead with 2:15 to play with an old-fashioned three-point play by Shelby Little.

Little led all players with 13 points at the break to go along with five boards. Asha Scott added 10 points and five rebounds of her own in the half and Miranda Hennings hit on 3-of-4 three-point attempts for nine first half points.

Bellevue shot 47% in the first half, 6-of-8 from deep, and a perfect 11-for-11 from the charity stripe.

Hallee Winsea and Olivia Bell scored five points apiece in the first half for the Tigers who had five different players connect on three-point attempts.

A more closely contested third quarter saw the Bruins extend their lead by just two points, going ahead 62-36 into the fourth where BU out-scored CCC 27-18 to secure the 35-point victory.

Scott and Little finished with 14 apiece for Bellevue. Faith Ross added 13, Delaney VanBlaricon tossed in 12, and Ashtyn Arnold finished with 11.

Bell finished with a team-high 15 for Central Christian and Makia Lovelace tossed in nine for the Tigers.

Bellevue continues play at the Tabor Classic tomorrow with an 11 a.m. tip-off against Southwestern Christian University.
