BU falls to SAU, Judson at Spring Games

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Bellevue University softball team dropped a pair of games on Thursday at THE Spring Games, falling to Spring Arbor University, 3-0, in the opener before losing to Judson University, 3-2, in the nightcap. 

With the two losses, Bellevue falls to 7-10 on the season.  

The Bruins will continue action at the tournament on Friday with games against Dordt (8:15 am) and Judson (10:30 am). 

Spring Arbor 3, Bellevue 0

Emmalee Hamp tossed a one-hit complete game shutout while also helping her cause with a two-run homer as SAU defeated the Bruins, 3-0, in the opening game of the day. 

The Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning on Hamp's two-run homer to center field. 

SAU extended the margin to 3-0 in the top of the fourth frame on an RBI single to center field by Brooke Meeker. 

Savannah Gunn (2-3) suffered the loss, giving up three runs on four hits with one walk and four strikeouts in seven innings in the circle. 

Hamp fanned 11 Bruins to improve to 3-3 on the season. 

Judson 3, Bellevue 2

Despite stranding 11 baserunners, Judson outhit the Bruins 13-3 to pull out the 3-2 victory in Bellevue's second contest of the day. 

An RBI double to left field by Katie Cunningham gave the Bruins an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. 

The Eagles countered with a two-run single to center field by Braly Wiser to grab a 2-1 advantage in the bottom half of the first.

The Bruins tied the contest at 2-2 in the top of the third on Cunningham's RBI single to left field that scored Laila Fiscus from second base. 

Tatyana Chavez led off the bottom of the third with a solo homer to left field to give JU a 3-2 margin. Neither team scored the remainder of the contest as the Eagles squeaked out the one-run victory. 

Ellie Zoucha (0-1) was tagged with the loss, allowing three runs on eight hits in the first three innings of the contest.
